Is it just me or is the night sky getting lighter?

Last week I spent a couple of days up on the mountain camping or I probably still wouldn't have noticed. When I woke up during the night around midnight or 1AM or so, it wasn't as dark as I expected it to be in the tent. I didn't even need my flashlight to see the objects in my tent. So, then I decided to unzip the window to look out. Now this is new moon time-so no moonlight and yet, the sky itself instead of being black with dots of stars was more like a slate or charcoal grey with dots of stars.

After I came back home, I decided to see if it was same at the lower elevation. The sky wasn't quite as light as at the higher elevation, but it also wasn't black either. For example, I could easily see where the hose was lying on the ground outside my kitchen window without having the yardlight on. Last year at this time, I would have needed a flashlight or the yardlight on to not trip over the hose.

I don't suppose those of you living in cities or areas where there are a lot of city lights would notice, but I'm wondering if anybody else out there is noticing a difference in the nighttime sky? Or maybe my vision is changing??

Could it be Ariana because we are closer to the sun?

I have noticed that. Could be light pollution. But the planets are all getting brighter too!
